This year marks the 16th annual celebration in a week which sees organisations businesses and apprentices come together across the country to celebrate the positive impact that apprenticeships can make to the apprentices themselves, businesses, organisations as well as the wider economy.
The theme for this year’s National Apprenticeship Week is ‘Skills for Life.’ The week will reflect on how apprenticeships can help people develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career and help businesses develop a talented workforce with the skills needed for the future.
Here at TMT, we have been lucky enough to be part of a fantastic apprenticeship scheme, with three of our team taking part. The Goldman Sachs/Multiverse programme (10,000 Small Businesses & Multiverse Accelerator as it’s officially known) * is a scheme that offers fully-funded professional development to help boost productivity.
It focusses on three key areas of learning:
- Data Literacy (data literacy)
- Data Fellowship (wrangling and analysis)
- Business Transformation Fellowship (preparing business leaders to deliver strategic initiatives)
Out of around 100 places on the scheme – TMT has been lucky enough to gain three of them with Customer Experience Manager Ben Elkin studying Data Literacy (Level 3) and E Commerce Manager Jaime Fergusson and Technical Services Analyist Anthony Bazilio studying for the the Data Fellowship (Level 4).
Ben said: “I’m delighted to have been given this opportunity and am really enjoying it so far. A lot of my role involves looking at and interpreting data. The apprenticeship will really strengthen my skill set in this area. It’s a twelve-part module and focusses on analysing and formatting data to help inform data driven decisions. Once I’ve completed the apprenticeship, I’ll have much more knowledge on how to look at data and how to use it more effectively for the benefit of the business. Tasks that take me an hour now, will take me much less time in the future which will help massively in terms of efficiency.”
TMT Founder Adam Whitehouse said: “Some years ago I was lucky enough to undergo some training through Goldman Sachs and it was a fantastic opportunity. I’ve never forgotten what I learnt and it really helped me. We are delighted that three of our team have been lucky enough to gain places on theses apprenticeships through Goldman Sachs and Multiverse. They will learn a lot which will not only benefit them individually but also our business as a whole.”
TMT has a number of other apprentices working for us too, through partnerships with both Newcastle College and other training providers.
Laura-Jane Wootton, Human Resources and Recruitment Manager said: “We have a number of fantastic apprentices working in departments including finance and customer services. Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity to learn all elements of a job, whilst working in industry and studying at the same time. Here at TMT our apprentices are guaranteed a job at the end of it, as well as gaining the associated qualifications, which is a great opportunity. We’ve got some fantastic staff working with us who started out as apprentices.”
*Founded by Ewan Blair back in 2016 Multiverse’s mission is to create a diverse group of future leaders by providing high-quality apprenticeship programmes that combine work, training and community.
Since launching they’ve training more than 5,000 apprentices in partnership with more than 200 of the world’s best employers. In 2021 they also launched in America.
