Keele Uni Award - Winners Group

Delighted With Award Win

We are celebrating at TMT First after scooping a Keele University Breaking the Mould Award for Sustainability.

The awards celebrate the innovation-led organisations, businesses, not-for-profits and charities that have benefitted from the innovative support programmes at the university

It’s the first time the event’s been held in person since 2019 because of the pandemic and its was hosted by well-known broadcast journalist and presenter Krishnan Guru-Murphy.

It was a great evening celebrating the innovative work being carried out by some amazing businesses who have all been helped by the university.

The awards actually celebrate the innovation-led organisations, businesses, not-for-profits and charities that have benefitted from the innovative support programmes at Keele University.*

We’d also like to say a huge congratulation to the other category winners.

Keele Uni Award - Adam Whitehouse

Our Chief Executive Adam Whitehouse said: “It was an amazing night to be among some brilliant businesses and hear their stories. To be recognised for our work around sustainability means a lot to me personally and the team as sustainability is the key to everything we do at TMT. In fact, our mission is to keep technology alive for longer by repairing and refurbishing it and the support we have had from the university has been a fantastic help. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists on their success and to Keele for putting on such a great evening.” (Information on some of the support we’ve received from the university is at the bottom of this blog.)

Professor Trevor McMillan, OBE, Vice-Chancellor of Keele University added: “Professor Trevor McMillan OBE, Vice-Chancellor of Keele University, said: “It’s a real pleasure to have been able to host the Breaking the Mould awards in person again this year after two years away. All our award winners, and those who were shortlisted, are thoroughly deserving of recognition in this year’s awards for their inspiring work to improve and grow the region’s business prospects and economy.”

*Our ongoing partnership with Keele University has been integral to the work we do around sustainability. Through the Smart Energy Network Demonstrator project investigative work was carried out into ways of repairing/processing the components within mobile phones, especially the screens/ batteries. This was to look at the most environmentally friendly/sustainable ways forward. The end game was to adopt innovative methods of keeping technology alive for longer, helping to reduce carbon emissions. As a result, we developed innovative technology that allows phones to be repaired using new processes/ techniques enabling more devices to be cost effectively repaired. This reduces waste in the repair process, reusing and reclaiming components that was not previously possible. It will extend the life of more than 100,000 mobile devices a year, thanks to this work.
