But what does that mean for your tech and especially your mobile phone?
Protecting your mobile phone from the sun is essential to prevent overheating, damage to the battery, and potential harm to the internal components. Here are some practical tips from TMT First to safeguard your device:
1. Avoid Direct Sunlight
Keep your phone out of direct sunlight whenever possible. Prolonged exposure can cause the device to overheat and may damage the battery and screen.
2. Use a Protective Case
Use a case with heat-resistant properties to provide some insulation from the sun’s rays. Some cases are designed specifically to protect against extreme temperatures.
3. Use a Screen Protector
A UV-resistant screen protector can help reduce the amount of heat and UV radiation that penetrates your phone’s screen.
4. Keep It in the Shade
When outside, keep your phone in a shaded area, such as under an umbrella or in a bag, to prevent direct exposure to the sun.
5. Turn Off Unnecessary Features
Turning off features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS when not in use can reduce the heat generated by your phone.
6. Avoid Intensive Tasks
Minimise activities that generate heat, such as gaming, video streaming, or using complex apps, especially in direct sunlight.
7. Regularly Check Temperature
Monitor your phone’s temperature. Many phones have built-in temperature sensors and will display a warning if the device gets too hot.
8. Use Airplane Mode
Switching to airplane mode reduces the phone’s activity, which can help keep it cooler.
9. Keep It Cool
If your phone does get hot, turn it off and let it cool down gradually in a shaded, cool environment. Avoid sudden temperature changes like placing it in a refrigerator or freezer, which can cause condensation and damage.
10. Avoid Leaving in Hot Places
Never leave your phone in a parked car or other hot environments where temperatures can soar significantly.
As well as the sun, there is the rain! Be careful of rain showers, swimming pools and seawater unless you have a waterproof device or case. Water damaged phones are mostly written off so it pays to protect. And remember, back up your photos and videos to the cloud so if the worst happens your memories are intact!
