Tell us about yourself.
I’m married with two children and one grandchild. My daughter is getting married next year, which we’re all looking forward to, and my son is a Tik Toker – he’s got more than 20,000 followers. It’s a world though I don’t really understand!
I’ve got 30 year’s industry experience and before I joined TMT First earlier this year, I was the Managing Director of an ITAD company for eight years.
I’ve known the TMT Founder Adam for thirty years! We first met when we worked at Dixons (people of a certain age will remember that chain). Adam worked in the stores and I was a service engineer. Our paths have crossed several times over the years and when Adam approached me to work at TMT First, I jumped at the chance to embark on a new challenge.
What does your role involve?
ITAD is a relatively new department at TMT First and it’s essentially my role to create and develop that side of the business. I lead the team here and am responsible for overseeing the strategy behind it as well as the day to day operations. It’s challenging but rewarding.
What do you enjoy most about the role?
In previous jobs I’ve had, one of the biggest problems was the lack of passion and belief from investors, that’s not the case at TMT at all.
The senior management team have it in abundance and it shows in their unwavering drive to succeed. They genuinely have a passion for making the new department a success and the difference in attitude have been both refreshing and invigorating.
What do you find most challenging about the role?
In my previous role, I was MD in total control of the whole business so here I am just adjusting to a new way of working and the TMT processes that I need to follow. The management team are ambitious so it’s a great time to part of it.
What’s your ambition?
I’ve been around the industry a long time so the ambitions you have at my age are completely different to the ones you have when you are starting your career. I don’t want to be the next Chief Exec, I don’t need applause. I just want to enjoy the role that I do and at the moment that means making the ITAD department a success, which I am sure, with the team we have here, we will do that together.
Tell us something people at work might not know about you?
I had cancer when I was younger and it was a total gamechanger. It polarises exactly what’s important in life – it’s certainly not about money or titles. It also makes you care less about things that really don’t matter and makes you realise you need to enjoy life more.
Oh, and I also used to play snooker with the darts player Eric Bristow, a long time ago!
What do you like doing in your spare time?
We’ve got a motorhome and so have some of our friends, so we like going away and spending time with them.
Do you have a motto?
Don’t do the same things today, that you did yesterday and expect different results.
