As a team we have continued to grow with more than 130 of us now working at TMT First.
With the ongoing success of our Samsung Accredited Training Academy, we are continuing to recruit the next generation of technicians – many of whom are going on to progress up the career ladder within the company.
As you may have read, we have also recently recruited Darren Billings, the former Assurant European Chief Operating Officer, as our new Chief Executive. Darren has brought with him a wealth of experience and has already hit the ground running to oversee the day to day running of the business. It has freed me up to focus on our work around sustainability, something I am passionate about, as well as developing our business further as we look to grow in 2023. Another new appointment last month saw Laura-Jane Wootton join us in a newly created position as Human Resources and Recruitment Manager.
In Laura-Jane’s short time with us she has already introduced a Staff Awards programme and is working incredibly hard to bring in a range of measures to position TMT as an employer of choice in 2023 so watch this space.
This year (in no particular order) we have also:
- Continued to grow the businesses, recruiting more staff and repairing even more mobile devices.
- Developed new technology (with Samsung) which has meant that mobile devices can be repaired more cost effectively.
- Signed up to the Million Tree Pledge which will see us plant a million trees over the next decade.
- Been proud to be part of Keele University’s #WorkingTogether marketing campaign -and celebrating all the work we have done with them – including a two-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership project looking at improving operational efficiencies and making better use of the data we collect through AI and ML technologies.
- Been selected to work with Staffordshire University on a six-month project to help us develop our stock management systems and processes, called the Staffordshire Connected and Intelligent Mobility Innovation Accelerator (SCIMIA) – the project starts next month (watch out for updates on that).
- Worked more closely with the Globe Group CIC- looking at projects that extend the life of mobile technology and the carbon savings from device repair.
- Sponsored the Staffordshire Climate Expo – as well as closing the event with the keynote speaker TV presenter Kate Humble.
- Worked with Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce more closely and met the BBC’s first Technology Editor Zoe Kleinman to talk about the work TMT does around sustainability.
- Qualified for gold Samsung Eco Service Partner Certification.
- Launched our new business facing website.
- And we added to the trophy cabinet – scooping a Keele University ‘Breaking the Mould,’ Award for Sustainability as well as being presented with a Staffordshire business and Environment Network (SBEN) Outstanding Achievement Award.
We wouldn’t have been able to achieve all this without the fantastic team at TMT and I want to thank them all for their hard work and dedication this year.
And we mustn’t forget that despite these achievements, the economic challenges of this year, rising energy costs as well as the cost-of-living crisis has meant that 2022 hasn’t always been easy for the business or indeed our staff as we continue to support each other.
With 2023 just around the corner now – we are looking forward to building on the successes of this year and to what the future holds for TMT and our team.
All that leaves me to say is: have a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
