Maximising Device Value – when to sell and when to refurbish

What’s old and what’s gold? That’s the question. If you have old devices do you just trade them for the best price, or do you look to refurbish and then secure an increased value? At TMT First we can help maximise device value, here’s how.

Grading and Assessment – firstly we can check and grade your devices, not just cosmetically but also a thorough software and hardware test. For mobile phones this includes a 52-point check. Once graded we can offer a value on the stock either collectively or at device level.

Evaluation – with over 15 years experience in the tech circular economy, the team at TMT First are skilled in identifying which devices benefit from refurbishment to increase value. We will assess which can be uplifted to achieve a higher commercial value and which are not worth the effort.

Refurbishment – on average a refurbished phone is worth £50 more than a phone that hasn’t been refurbished. This takes into account the cost of the refurb. What do we mean by refurbish? It could be a replacement battery, screen polish to remove minor scratches, screen protector replacement (on a Samsung Fold or Flip this is a professional process) or screen burn reduction. This is in addition to a thorough anti-bacterial clean and dust removal, plus a software update and secure data wipe.

Redeploy or Resell – the client can decide whether to redeploy the devices back into their own organisation or sell the stock for a higher price than originally valued. For devices which turned out to be non-working or no value, TMT First can shred these down to extract precious metals and recycle the plastics – helping our clients hit ESG targets.

In conclusion, the first price you receive on your obsolete tech fleet may not be the best. With a little bit of effort, TMT First can help you to uplift the value of your stock. This achieves a better commercial outcome and refreshes the old tech for a new lease of life.

Fundamental to our business at TMT First, ‘keeping technology alive for longer’.
