Meet Our Financial Controller Karen Plant

This week we’ve been speaking to Karen Plant, our Financial Controller about her role at TMT and her life outside of work.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m TMT’s Financial Controller and I have worked at the company for ten years. I love travelling, making memories with my grandchildren, reading, keeping fit as well as hiking.

Tell us about your job.

My role as the financial controller is not only about numbers but also about translating financial data into actionable insights by maintaining financial transparency and accuracy. I contribute to the success of our business by enabling well-informed decisions, managing risks, and supporting our growth trajectory.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy assessing and managing financial risks, helping TMT to avoid potential pitfalls, and making calculated decisions.

What’s the hardest thing about your job?

The hardest thing is the pressure to perform. The financial performance of the company rests partially on the Financial Controller’s ability to provide accurate insights.  The pressure to deliver accurate financial information can be stressful.

What did you do before you joined TMT?

I’ve worked in an accounting environment for more than 29 years across a wide range of areas including metal fabrication, pottery industry, electronics, manufacturers serving both the public and private sectors.

What’s your ambition?

My ambition is to succeed and be a part of the team to drive TMT to the next level.

Tell us something no-one knows about you?

Few people know that I donate blood platelets on a regular basis.

And finally, what’s your motto?

Embrace challenges: ignite solutions.  This mindset not only drives my work but also inspires me to continually seek growth and contribute positively to our team’s success.
