We said NO to plastic

Single Use Plastics – we’re going into battle at TMT First!

Single-use plastics are harmful to the environment because they take hundreds of years to break down, contributing to long-term pollution. Instead of decomposing, they fragment into microplastics, which contaminate water, soil, and even the food chain. These plastics are a major threat to wildlife, as animals often mistake them for food, leading to injury or death. Additionally, their production relies on fossil fuels, generating carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.

Despite recycling efforts, most single-use plastics end up in landfills or the ocean due to low recycling rates and contamination. They also contribute to widespread littering, clogging waterways and harming ecosystems. To reduce their impact, individuals and businesses can switch to reusable alternatives, support policies that ban harmful plastics, and ensure proper recycling. Reducing single-use plastic consumption is essential for protecting the planet and future generations.

At TMT First we process over 250,000 pieces of technology a year which all require bubble wrap or an inflatable air sack. Although not strictly single use, we still thought there must be a better way to package devices and reduce plastic.

After a period of research and testing, TMT First are making the move to using paper packaging instead of plastic.

Our paper packaging comes from sustainable forests, which are busy taking carbon out of the air as they grow, which is a double benefit. Introduced late last year, we conservatively estimate reducing our plastic use by a minimum of 250,000 pieces annually. This equates to a reduction of 1.25 tonnes of plastic and 7.5 tonnes CO2 emissions (to produce the plastic we would otherwise have used).

As we aim towards carbon neutrality our customers can be assured partnering with TMT First not only makes business sense but also environmental sense!
