Meet the Team – Jamie Dobbs – Head of IT

Jamie Dobbs – Head of IT

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I have five children – three boys and two girls and their ages range from three right up to 18 so you can imagine family life keeps me busy.

I’ve worked in IT for over 15 years and have a real passion for it. I live in Nantwich and have lived in various Cheshire towns.

Tell us about your job?

I have been at TMT First for eight years. I oversee and manage all aspects of IT, including its infrastructure, development, cyber security, new project implementation and onboarding new customers. Our department also provides technical support and graphic design to the business.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

It’s a great company to work for with lots of opportunities and I really enjoy working in IT and the different challenges that brings. Probably the biggest enjoyment is looking back at what the IT team have achieved over the years.

What’s the hardest thing about your job?

The most enjoyable aspect of the job can also be the hardest sometimes. There are lots of challenges to address and sometimes it can be difficult to juggle the competing demands, but it really helps having such a great IT team around me that I can always trust and rely on, and the coffee… lots of coffee helps.

What did you do before you joined TMT?

I’ve always worked in the mobile industry but for as long as I can remember I’ve been interested in IT so most of my career has been spent working in it. I’ve worked for a number of companies where I’ve specialised in IT, including Caudwell, Brightstar and Assurant Solutions. I’ve actually worked for TMT on two occasions. The first time was in 2009/2010 and after leaving to gain more experience elsewhere I came back in 2015 as Head of IT and I’ve never looked back.

What’s your ambition?

I’m happy doing what I’m doing. I’m really interested in cyber/information security though and would like to specialise more in that are going forward.

Tell us something no-one knows about you?

Many people may not know my name isn’t actually Jamie, my name is officially James but I’ve always been called Jamie since I can remember.

And finally, what’s your motto?

It’s got IT connotations unsurprisingly – “If at first you don’t succeed call it version 1.0 and try again.”
