That hasn’t always been easy which is why in 2020 we developed our Samsung Approved Training Academy to help fill that skills shortage.
During a four-week intense paid training scheme our future technicians are trained by experts and audited by Samsung themselves.
If they successfully graduate from the Academy, they are offered a role within our Repair Centre with career progression opportunities and great terms and conditions.
As of September 2022, 13 cohorts of the Academy have run and an amazing 40 have been recruited as a result. That figure is set to grow over the coming months.
Our Head of Repair Tudor Ion is the Academy’s creator. Tudor has worked with TMT for nearly six years now and moved to the UK from Romania, where he had extensive experience in the tech industry.
He said: “I set up and ran training academies for the company I was working for in Romania. There it was to help people in disadvantaged areas to upskill and help fill a skills shortage. Through a mutual business contact I was introduced to TMT’s founder Adam, who persuaded me to move to the UK and take up a Head of Repair position at his company.
“I could see that because of the volume of mobile units we were repairing, we just didn’t have enough engineers to carry out all the repairs needed and I wanted to use the experience I had at home into creating something similar here.
Tudor added: “The Academy has been designed to help us fill the skills shortage and create the next generation of engineers. During the four- week course attendees will learn everything from the theory and processes used to all aspects of the practical. It’s a paid training opportunity with great career opportunities for those that graduate. Ideally, we would like candidates aged over 18, who have a genuine interest in technology and the right attitude. Candidates really don’t need to have experience in the industry as we will give them all the training needed.”
28-year-old Dailiana Bianca completed our Academy in January 2021. She’s now a Level Two Engineer in the Repair Centre.
She said: “When I joined the Academy, I had no experience at all and I was really scared especially as I was the first woman on the training. I’d worked in quality engineering in the automotive industry previously which was very different to working with mobile devices. I really enjoyed the Academy – it was very interesting and the people who taught on it were great and very patient. I’m now a Level Two Engineer with TMT and I’m really enjoying my time here.”
