Studies show that a mobile phone or tablet can carry bacteria, fungi and even viruses. And it seems a quick wipe with your sleeve doesn’t remove all the nasty stuff – who knew!
To make it worse some of the germs found on a mobile phone can cause skin infections (on your hands and face), urinary tract infections and other unpleasant complaints.
Why Clean Your Mobile Phone?
Aside from the obvious medical benefits, cleaning your mobile phone regularly has other benefits:
- Improved Performance – dust, skin and dirt can clog the microphone and speaker. As a result sounds can be muffled and call quality can suffer. Should you have a removable battery cover, dirt can compromise the seal which makes the device more susceptible to water ingress.
- Maintain Condition – dirt can cause friction which leads to scratches on the screen and the body. It can seep under the screen protector which may lead to hairline scratches on the display. It may also make buttons more difficult to press by clogging the spring mechanism.
- Maintain Appearance – you want your phone to look good, right? Everyone loves getting a new phone, so if you can keep it looking like new for longer – then it’s a win.
- Increase Value – when it comes to trade in time, a pristine phone with no scratches, working buttons, clear speaker and microphone plus a new screen protector will all help to maximise value.
How To Clean Your Phone
So you’ve decided to clean your phone, what’s the best way to go about it? Here’s TMT First’s 5 step process.
Dust
Remove your phone from its case and if the screen protector is damaged take this off too. (Make sure you have a spare one before doing this). Clean your phone thoroughly using a duster and if you have one, a small brush like you get with an electric razor. Work around the open ports, microphone, headphone jack etc.
Blast
Did you know you can buy cans of air? Normally used for computer keyboards but also perfect to get any difficult dirt off your phone. Give your phone a blast in all the nooks and cranny’s!
Wipe
Once you have all the dry dirt off your phone, use an antiseptic wipe to clean off any germs, gunk or dried on dirt which didn’t get removed by dusting. This step should ensure your phone is free from everything you can’t see.
Replace
Fit your new screen protector if required, taking care to follow the instructions and ensure there is no dust on the display when you fit it. We suggest fitting a screen protector using a table, good lighting and patience – don’t rush it!
Restart
Treat your phone to a full restart, at TMT First we recommend you turn your phone off at least once a week to allow the processor to cool down and also refresh the system.
Conclusion
A clean phone can perform better, looks better and can be worth more at trade in or resale. At TMT First and Meelie Mobile all our refurbished phones have undertaken a full professional clean, ready for their next owner.
